Massachusetts Mediated Divorce Lawyers in Mansfield, MA | Bristol County
Mediation is a divorce option that continues to grow in popularity. Couples in every state are realizing that litigating a divorce is a complex and draining experience, both emotionally and financially. If a couple can come together to discuss their divorce issues, mediation may be a good option. Through the help of a neutral third party, a couple can discuss the important factors of their case, including, but not limited to the division of assets, alimony, child custody, and child support. In the end, a couple may benefit from avoiding litigation. The Law Offices of Cynthia L. Hanley, P.C. provide mediation services for clients who can come together to discuss important marital issues. As a certified Massachusetts mediator, Cynthia Hanley is ready to answer your questions and guide you through the process. How do I get divorced through mediation?
A couple who wishes to avoid court may decide on engaging in mediation. Mediation is an alternative dispute resolution method that brings a couple together to resolve their contested issues. Through a neutral facilitator, the couple will negotiate important factors with a focus on respect, working toward a mutually-beneficial result. Once issues are resolved and the mediator believes that the couple has come to a fair and just agreement, he or she will draft a divorce agreement. When the couple signs the document, the mediator can present it to the court. If the court agrees to the terms, especially the one’s regarding child custody and support, the couple can be granted a Judgment of Divorce.
How long is the process?
The process is as long as the couple needs. There are no time constraints or pressure put on either party to engage in the process. Some couples can conclude the process within a few sessions while others need longer. In most cases, a couple will wait longer for the court to decide on the case and pass down judgment than it takes to conclude the series of sessions.
