Bristol County Divorce Attorney Explains Three Things You Must Know About Mediation

As a dedicated Bristol County Divorce Attorney, clients often ask about divorce mediation.  I often advise clients of several things they should know about mediation.

  1. Whether you go through court for a divorce or through mediation, your divorce agreement in Massachusetts can be enforceable. The purpose of mediation is to come to an agreement between the parties.  Once an agreement is signed and a judge approves of the divorce, then the judgement is enforced in the same manner as if you had gone through a court judgement.
  2. Mediation can work for divorcing parties no matter what stage they are in. At the beginning of the divorce process people can be upset, and angry. When you bring a marriage into a mediation setting, we can redirect our clients to the issues at hand and work toward an agreement they can both live with.
  3. It’s important for both parties to be aware of the finances of the marriage when going through the mediation process. You want to evaluate the financial statements that your spouse fills out to determining whether you think that your spouse was accurate. Along with the finances you should be aware of all the issues that can come up including any parenting matters.
